MS91.06: Peyton Randolph Papers
Unknown person letter to Dr. Meade, 1804 May 28

p1

May 28
1804

I have just heard that Ben Lincoln has very
bad sore eyes, if you have seen him & think it nesasary
for him to come home, will you let me know by a line, if
an opportunity offers, we shall be at Mr, Nandaways where it
will be quite as convenient for me to send for him as if I was at
home

Maria got her bonnets, & riding, dress also
but it is intirely too large which she regrets very much
for it appears to be very stylish, but I tell her when she
gets as fat as you left her, it will fit her, when I wrote you
last week she was alarmingly unwell, but I was so sure you
would have come up to court, that I did not tell you so
she seems to be better now than she has been since you left
the neighbourhood her spirits are better since the neighbor hood
girls came up

the girls wished for you last night they were
dancing & playing untill 12, the two Doctors playing the
violins alternately, I think Dr Walker & original but he is
the [favorite] of Miss Willcoxs Mother. & that is at least one
favorable symtom, I dont think your neighbour will succeed.
the old Lady says, Doctor Walker has three plantations, she knows
nothing about Hubbard. those are her own words. & she don't
seem to wish to know more about him. she is facinating in her manner.

is it possible that there is a grand Fortipiano
at Mr Mores for Maria. Mrs Willcox told me so it is it
will be a serious evil, if she is correct

Mr Robinson is with us. Maria
is entertaining of him. as she very frequently did you. playing & singing
My son you say but he Dont look as if he thought with you. nobody knows what may happen

p2

I forgot to tell you one of the reasons giving by the people for your
leaving of us. Marias great attention to Mr thatGentleman [nor one]
the last evening you spent with him here. another reason
giving. is that if you staid I would send Maria away

Ryland did not come to see us [We] met him on the road
by your not coming up this week you have lost the acquaintanes
& society of Miss Willcox & several other young Ladies & what is
still more mortifying you will get none of our May cherries
the trees never had so many before

I have no more to say only to hope Miss
Willcox may keep Dr Hubbard in Buckingham for a
Month, I told him as much, he dont like to be [deleted]
with [deleted] all [deleted] with me that is of no consequence I must follow my humour

Hadijah goes up to school on sunday he would
have gone to see Ben but he waited to see you & to go down with
you that far

Your friend when I dont think
of your leaving us so solitary

Mr M

Marias riding habit is big enough
for me she is out of all patience
